Talk Was A Dream v1
2008-2009
From April 2008 to January 2009 I posted periodically to a blog. Topics ranged— art, design, music, science, shopping, events, etc—and I usually included mp3s that tied in thematically with each post.
One point of the blog was to use large images. Sometimes I experimented with illustrations for the posts. Below is a snapshot of the images that went with each entry.
I had fun with it and gained lots of insight I hope to put toward Talk Was a Dream v2.

Sleep
Book Design, 2006
For the Pratt institute’s Graduate Communications Seminar, our group set out to cover the mysteries of sleep in three parts: A scientific look at “What is Sleep?” to start, and an illuminating view of the “Effects of Sleep” to finish. In between—Part 2, the section I designed—a visual journey through one night’s sleep highlights strange phenomena, myths and symbols with surreal photomontage, layers of type, and dreamy watercolor.
Each book is covered with a different mattress pattern on sheer vellum stock and hand-bound with title and publication information appearing on mattress tags sewn into the spines. A black satin-covered box reminiscent of silky sheets contains the three-piece set.
Part 2: During sleep was printed on light grey stock to give the book a muted, hazy look. Information about the brain activity during each stage of sleep is plotted along the footer of each page.
